Principal’s Message
Welcome to St Anne’s Catholic Primary, Strathfield South, a friendly and
caring community brimming with enthusiasm and joy. Our vision is to be a
thriving Catholic school sustained by excellence in teaching and learning. It is a
vision that challenges our students and staff to understand that education is
both life long and life giving. We are guided by our values of curiosity,
empathy, collaboration, excellence and truth.
Our school is blessed with students and staff from many different cultural
backgrounds. There is a strong sense of partnership between school staff,
parents and the parish. We value relationships and develop strong
partnerships with the parents and students by being available and
approachable. We genuinely strive to value our children as individuals – each
with their own unique personality. Through our Schoolwide Positive
Behaviours for Learning (SPBL) our students are encouraged to be responsible,
respectful, safe (and kind). Our Catholic beliefs and values permeate our
school, and celebrations and liturgies are an important part of our culture.
We have much to offer here at St Anne’s. Our curriculum is well-balanced with
high quality teaching and learning programs in all Key Learning Areas and in
Religious Education. We also provide a range of specialist programs and
services to meet individual needs including most recently the Amadeus Music
Program for all of our students. Our teachers are professional, highly qualified
and extremely dedicated with the interests of the children at heart.
So, are we proud of our school? YES! We are proud of our community, our rich
cultural diversity and of course, our children. St Anne’s is a great place to be!
Warm regards,
Phil Townsend
Principal
History
Our parish at Strathfield South has a rich heritage, reaching back to the early Australian Church. A parcel of land encompassing St Anne’s Square, and stretching 1.5 kilometres to the banks of the Cook’s River, was granted to Father John Therry in 1837. The history is evident in the streets surrounding St Anne’s Square which are named after dignitaries of the early Australian church. The foundation stone for the original church was laid in 1841. This beautiful heritage-listed building has been converted for use as a hall by the school and parish, enhancing our dance, band and public speaking programs. St Anne’s Reserve, which adjoins the school square, is also believed to have been a site of significant gathering and communication for the Aboriginal population of the area.
Our historical site is a source of great pride for our community. Our motto – Love of God and People – is shared by the school and the parish, living out the vision of Father Therry all those years ago.
